16-year-old Wins Primeval Monster Design Competition
A 16-year-old from Essex has won the competition to create a brand-new creature for ITV1's Primeval.
Carim Nahaboo's design of a new future predator evolved from carnivorous beetle was selected from more than 5,000 entries.
Carim's beast will feature in series three of the time-travel adventure series in 2009, when Cutter and the team do battle with the monster in episode eight.
Carim said: "I'm really interested in predatory insects and took inspiration from the way in which they hunt and kill, but the design is based mainly on a preying mantis.
"I can't quite believe I've won. I've watched the series since the start and I’m really excited about seeing my design on screen."
Tim Haines, co-creator of Primeval, said: "We were overwhelmed with the amount and quality of entrants we received for the Create A Creature Competition; everyone who entered worked extremely hard to create original and exciting creatures.
"Hand-picking the winner from the thousands of designs was a difficult but hugely enjoyable process but there was something really special about Carim's entry that made it stand out from the rest. We think his creature is going to make episode eight of Primeval series three one to remember!"

Rachel Stevens: I would strip for movie sex scene
Look out boys, gorgeous Rachel Stevens says she would happily strip off for a sex scene. The former S Club singer has hung her microphone up for a while and wants to pursue an acting career. And she told the Razz she'd be comfortable with taking her clothes off in the line of duty.
Rachel said: "I'm with an acting management company. We're looking at the script for a great romantic comedy play at the moment. "Some of the scripts I've read have full-on sex scenes and stuff like that but that's part of it. You've got to go for it."
Rachel said she had enrolled to study an acting technique which would help her overcome any fears about getting naked on stage or screen.
She said: "It's basically about being fully truthful in the moment and putting your attention on to the other person. It taught me that when you are in the moment and take on a role, that it doesn't matter about these things. "You're not thinking about yourself, so don't have that awkwardness about being naked in front of all the crew."
Sexy Rachel enjoyed solo success with songs like Sweet Dreams My LAX and Some Girls following her stint in the pop group S Club.
She says that turning 30 changed her outlook in life, and although she has fond memories of her days with the band, she is keen to move on to new pastures.
"Although I would love to do more singing at some point, it's not the right time for me to get back into it at the moment," she said. "I'm throwing myself into acting and focusing on that.
"I just turned 30 in April and, when you get to 30, you get a sense of who you are and a new-found confidence."
Rachel is in the process of moving in to a new home with boyfriend Alex Lee, her childhood sweetheart. The pair went out for four weeks aged 11, but hadn't seen one another for 17 years until a chance meeting in a shop.
Alex is obviously her No.1, but she says her leading men on screen would ideally be George Clooney or Johnny Depp.
Rachel didn't get to star with either of them when she voiced her new acting role in BBC animated series Glendogie Bogey, but she did have the privilege of starring with renowned Scots actors Alex Norton and Peter Capaldi.
Rachel plays the voice of Patricia, a cheeky and fun girl who helps out a supernatural investigating team on their latest case, before she is abducted by the legendary Glendogie Bogey - a fearsome creature that lurks in the caves beneath a remote Highland golf course.
The 30-minute cartoon follows on from the Scottish BAFTA nominated Haunted Hogmanay.
She said: "Peter and Alex were really good and the faces we pulledmust have looked absolutely ridiculous as we did the voiceover.
"The character I'd envisaged bounced off Alex and Peter and I ended up throwing myself around as I screamed and got into character.
"Alex was hilariously funny and both guys suited their characters so well. "I've been told I sound quite Scottish in bits, too, and I thought maybe their accent had rubbed off onme.
"I would have had a singsong in it, but Patricia definitely can't sing."
Rachel still thinks fondly of her days in music and hasn't completely ruled out an S Club reunion in the future.
She admitted: "After my second album, I wanted to take some time out. The pop world was changing so much. I also wanted to take some time out for myself and I loved living in LA.
"If it came about that S Club could do a tour, I'd be up for it, but everyone is busy with other stuff right now.
"It's brilliant that The Spice Girls and Take That have returned and have such a massive following, but that's because music holds memories and if S Club got back together, it would be a celebration of those memories."
Glendogie Bogey is on BBC1 Scotland on Sunday, May 25, at 4.35pm.

Jon return's to Five role
Jon Lee - who provides a voice for one of the new Famous Five - has revealed he's been a fan of the young adventurers for years.
The former S Club 7 singer voices the character of Julian's son Max in the new Disney Channel version of the classic children's stories.
The 25-year-old started reading the books aged 11, when he was cast as Julian in a national tour of Famous Five The Musical - Smuggler's Gold.
He even met Enid Blyton's daughter Gillian, who signed one of his books.
"Twelve years down the line I'm now playing Julian's son, so I've gone on a bit of a weird circle back round on myself!" he laughs.
He admits the Famous Five needed updating for today's children.
"Children nowadays are very different. It had to be updated. It would have felt immediately dated to watch anything with the language as it was back then.
"I think the key thing is to engage children into this thing of adventure, coming together, being intelligent and relying on each other. It's brilliant the way it's been done because it's really respectful to the old stories."
The Famous Five: On The Case starts on the Disney Channel on Monday May 5 and then every Saturday from May 10.

Primeval to return for series three
ITV1's popular time-travel drama Primeval is set to return to our screens with an extended 10-episode run.
Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels) and Laila Rouass (Footballers' Wives) join the cast including Douglas Henshall and Hannah Spearritt as the anomalies continue to present an unrelenting series of threats.
Still reeling from Stephen's death in series two and with the depth of Helen's betrayal now revealed, events get even wilder but it's not just the creatures that Cutter and the team have to contend with.
The cloak of secrecy behind which they have been working is beginning to slip as deadlier creatures continue to rampage through the anomalies and questions are being asked as the conspiracy spreads its net wide.
Co-creator Tim Haines said: "I'm delighted that Primeval is back and its extended run of 10 episodes demonstrates not only a confidence at ITV, but a real desire from the fans to see more of Cutter and the team in action."
Prepare for more explosive action as Primeval bares its newly sharpened teeth soon.

Former S Club 7 singer Jo O'Meara has split from her boyfriend – just one month away from giving birth to her first child.
The shamed BB star is expecting a son with her ex, who she refuses to name.
Despite parting ways Jo, 28, hopes he'll still play a part in the baby's upbringing.

Hannah Defends Primeval
Hannah Spearritt is sick of Primeval being compared with Doctor Who – she insists the ITV1 series is out on its own.
The perky blonde, formerly of S Club fame, believes the sci-fi show is established enough to have its own vibe.
And now it is in its second series, she and fellow actor Andrew Lee Potts (also her boyfriend) are sure the fantasy drama has moved on from tired old comparisons.
Hannah said: "I believe we won't get the comparisons this year. This year it's established, and if you've watched the series it's obvious it's nothing like Doctor Who."
Andrew added: "It was frustrating for us last year, but without Doctor Who we probably wouldn't have been given the slot. There's space for everybody.
"The great thing is with all these sci-fi series, people are starting to say, 'Hang on, Britain can make fantasy really well.'"

No Celebrity Guests on 'Primeval'
Primeval producers have decided that they do not want celebrity guests to appear on the show.
Andrew Lee-Potts, who plays Connor Temple, revealed that programme chiefs do not want the cast to overshadow the deadly creatures which cause trouble on the ITV1 drama each week.
"It was a conscious decision not to bring in celebrity guests on Primeval. We would rather the creatures are the stars," Andrew told the Daily Star.
"To be honest, when the series was launched last year, only Hannah Spearritt (Abby Maitland) and Douglas Henshall (Nick Cutter) were known faces. They could have cast people just to try and get press, but they didn't. It was a risk but it worked."

Third Series for ITV1's 'Primeval'
ITV1 has commissioned a third series of Primeval after airing only three episodes of the second.
So far, the show's second series is averaging over 5m viewers and overtook BBC One's The One and Only talent show by 200,000 viewers last Saturday.
Production on series three is expected to commence in March with a target airdate in next January.
"Primeval just keeps going from strength to strength with audiences really taking the team to their hearts," said ITV drama director Laura Mackie.
The broadcaster will ask viewers to invent a creature to be featured in the sci-fi drama as part of a user generated content drive later in the year. Mackie said the competition "will put viewers right at the heart of the action".
Tim Haines, executive producer for Impossible Pictures, added: "We are extremely proud of Primeval and are overjoyed by the success of the second series. Its popularity demonstrates that you can create 'characters' in CGI that audiences will respond to. By giving people the opportunity to design a monster for the third series we are creating a chance for them to be more involved and feel closer to the programme."

'Rollercoaster' ride for TV couple
Hannah Spearritt and Primeval co-star Andrew-Lee Potts have confessed it is "a rollercoaster" living and working together.
The duo have been dating since meeting on set during the first run of the show - which kicks off for another series on January 26.
"Working together 24-7 is always going to be a rollercoaster I suppose, but we're good because any problems we have we have a chat about and work through," says the newly-brunette Hannah.
"It was a journey," adds Andrew. "The last thing you want when you're doing stuff wrong at work is for your missus to be watching it, so there was all that mixed in.
"Also, as an actor I'm used to looking after myself, even though it sounds selfish," he continues. "But with Connor and Abby, because it was me and Hannah, it meant so much more and we so wanted to get it right. There were a lot of emotions on the set for us. If we do it again we're looking forward to it because we went through that whole journey and we learnt quite a lot about each other."

Jo is Pregnant
It's fair to say 2008 has got off to a much better start than last year for Jo O'Meara.
The former S Club 7 star - who was accused of teaming up with Jade Goody and Danielle Lloyd to bully Shilpa Shetty on Celebrity Big Brother 12 months ago - today announced she is pregnant.
The singer and her longterm boyfriend are expecting their first child in April.
She says: "It wasn't planned, but it was a very nice surprise.
"I'm nervous at the thought of a little person calling me mum, but it's a very happy way to begin 2008.
"This feels like a fresh start to me - new year, new baby, new purpose. I'm grateful for that."

'Primeval' stars
upstaged by reptile Rex
Primeval stars Andrew Lee-Potts and Hannah Spearritt received a shock when they were upstaged by the show's reptile Rex during an encounter with fans.
The pair, who play Connor Temple and Abby Maitland, were mobbed when they visited a shopping centre together - but the fans were more interested in talking about Rex than anything else.
"At first, we thought they wanted our autographs," Andrew told the Daily Star. "But then they said 'Where's Rex?' It was Rex they wanted - not us."
He joked: "It was a real blow to our egos, I can tell you."
Rex was introduced in the very first episode of the ITV1 show when he transported through a time portal from the past. He has since been adopted as a pet by the characters.

Hannah: "My prime
rump is too sexy for kids"
Primeval star Hannah Spearritt has banned knicker shots from the new series because they are too saucy for children.
Last year viewers got an eyeful when they tuned in to the sci-fi smash and saw the actress wandering around her flat in skimpy underwear.
But when filming started for the new season, Hannah, 26, told producers she would not strip for the cameras again.
The former S Club singer – who plays researcher Abby Maitland – said: "I thought the clips of me wandering around in my pants last year were a bit much.
"The thing is, this was already in the script when I got the part and I didn't think too much about it at the time.
"We filmed the scenes all in one block. But the actual clips got spread across the series so it made it look like I was walking around in pants all the time.
"When we watched it back, we were quite shocked. I say 'less is more'. We don't need it for the show."
But Hannah says fans need not worry if they still want sexy shots in the monster show.
She giggled: "If you want to see hot naked flesh, then the lovely James Murray, who plays Stephen, gets his top off!"

Monster time for Hannah
From pop star sensations S Club to Hollywood films, and now fighting prehistoric monsters: Hannah Spearritt has gone a long way from her Gorleston roots.
But friends of the diminutive star have a chance to see her in action on the small screen again, with a return of the hit series Primeval, which starts tomorrow night on ITV1.
Hannah returns as Abby Maitland in the adventure series as the team solve the mystery of rips in time and save the world from some seriously beastly opponents. From a family of raptors going wild in the aisles of a local shopping mall, a sabre-tooth at an amusement park, to a woolly mammoth holding up traffic up on the M25.
Hannah, who starred in films Seed of Chucky, Agent Cody Banks 2 and Seeing Double, is quite happy at being asked back for a second series of Primeval.
"Being brought back for a second time is such a great feeling because it means you're involved with something that has worked; something that people really like. The fact people have actually asked you back, and there are enough people out there who have enjoyed Primeval so much they want us to go again is very cool. It's lovely to feel wanted!"
So with a new series come some new characters, new creatures, and some big surprises.
Hannah said: "This series is so much more heightened and really takes absolutely everything to a newer and more exciting level; both in terms of the amount of action on screen as well as the emotional punch its packing. It pushes itself and definitely doesn't relax. I hope people will be shocked, but of course delighted with what's been done."
So how does it feel to be back with the old gang once more?
"It was fun to see everyone again, but what's even better is that there are more characters in this series, so, even though it's lovely to get back with the main crew and cast, it's nice to mix it up with the new faces.
"What's really cool this time around is that we're better trained. In this new reality, we're much slicker as a team. And we've got a headquarters! How great is that! It's called the ARC which stands for Anomaly Research Centre and is almost like a new character. I think it's going to be the star of the show! We were all upstaged by a cute mechanical flying lizard the first time round, and now we're about to be acted off the screen by a set!
It's clear the new series has stepped up several gears in terms of scope and size; that things are bigger and faster. With this shift in pace and amount of action, just how involved in all of this is Abby?
"Oh she's right in the middle of it all which is what I love about her. She is not afraid to get involved, to get stuck right into the action. Abby actively puts herself in the main arena
There is one moment, actually, when she takes on a sabre-toothed tiger; it's my Russell Crowe Gladiator moment," she laughed.
